HOW TO FIND OUT IF YOUR CV WILL EVER BE SEEN AGAIN.
‘The black hole information paradox is an observational phenomenon that results from the combination of quantum mechanics and general relativity which suggests that Physical information could permanently disappear in a black hole'.
Bit like job applications really, but less mysterious.
Don’t worry Science is here to help. There’s a way to retrieve some information from beyond the event horizon of the Application process.
Now being a creative I have, stuff like show reels and portfolios as well as my CV on different pages on my site robcoolen.squarespace.com. I have an interactive PDF cover letter with links to it which I use sometimes rather than attaching a CV.
Next You need to use the metrics on your website, Most ISPs provide them on some level. I use www.squarespace.com. Click on your metrics control and choose overview. You get a graph like this.
Now you can see if your job application dates coincide with spikes, you’ll get a pretty good idea of whether your application has been checked out or shredded by mysterious forces unknown.
Now for the fun bit. If you have some interesting spikes, go to your activity log settings and see who’s looking. Chances are it’ll be a recruiter or your prospective employer.
Lets find out.
Your activity log should list the IP addresses of who’s been looking at your site, when they looked at it, for how long and what pages they were looking at.
Copy and paste the IP address into something like https://db-ip.com and it’ll pop up with the GPS coordinates or maybe even a map of the IP address location. Google street view and there you go. You now have a pretty good idea of where your job application went.
If you know all this, apologies for teaching your mother how to suck eggs [gravitationally], if you don’t, well you won't be left in the dark.
